Hello,

I am a bit at a loss for what to do here.

Background:
I attempted something that not too many other people have tried and, of course, I am running into some issues that they didn’t seem to have. I installed Osram LED headlights in my LP MK7 GTI (Autobahn w/o DAP package) of which they do not make a specific set. It is either Halogen or Bi-xenon w/halogen DRL (a type we do not have in the US). I ended up modifying the wiring per ZERO815’s little guide he put together, a fairly simple task once I received the pin pullers. I then swapped out the AFS module for one from an A3 (for auto-leveling functionality) and went to do the programming. I did have to modify the lighting coding a wee bit, to get the proper dimming when signaling.

Issue:
Now to the problem at hand . . . I go to perform the basic setting of the new headlights and it says marginal conditions have not been met. Now, I believe this means any preliminary stuff needs to be setup/installed before I can run the basic setting. I checked the faults and I get the aforementioned code. I have taken it to my local German specialist shop where they inspected the wiring and stated it was fine. So, I ordered a cheap replacement sensor from China (they had good reviews and it was $40 compared with $260 for OEM). After installing, the error is still there. I do realize that there is a chance the cheap sensor is not functioning and I think I may try to remove the right one and plug it into the left to see if I get the same error code. But, I wanted to check here and see if anyone could assist.

Temporary Fix for those with similar issue, but no solution:
Currently I have just disabled AFS so I don’t get the error codes or the headlight motors worn out due to the failed startup procedure (same noise as if normal LP headlights were uncalibrated and attempted to run the startup presentation). I had to go into Dashboard and Gateway modules, into the long coding, and just look for a setting in each that has «AFS» in it. There is just one change for each module. Once I turned those off/inactive/uninstalled (can’t remember exact phrasing), my headlights didn’t attempt the startup presentation (aka derping motors) and I no longer have the AFS error code.

@CMB429 : hmm……… so — you say that you are using an AFS module (i.e. what the wiring diagram calls «J745») from an Audi on a VW mk7.

The error code on your post heading suggests that as currently programmed, J745 expects that a Rear left vehicle level sender on (what the wiring diagram calls «G76») is fitted . Is this item actually installed on your car — and if so, is the 3 x wire loom for the sender terminated on the J745 connector?

Thanks for the quick reply. I had replaced the J745 module with the 5Q0 907 357 module for the auto-leveling.

I am not sure what diagram that you are referring to with G76. This is the diagram I am referring to with the modifying of the wiring harness. I have the left rear level sensor (5Q0512521J) installed and I even replaced it to see if the sensor itself was the issue. I suppose that I would have to check back with the shop if they properly checked the wiring for that sensor, but they said they did and it was fine. Also, the connector and whatever cabling that I could see from under the car looked fine on the sensor end when I replaced the sensor. There was no mention of having to add/modify any wiring with the sensors, so I didn’t think this would be an issue.

haha… I’m equally not sure about your diagram (it’s certainly not an OEM VAG wiring diagram)!! :)
Here’s how the leveling senders are wired on a Audi A3/8V:

I assume that you are familiar with how to read VAG wiring diagrams. If not — the notation TXx /Y means a connector with a Total of X pins and the actual pin number is Y (the small x is just a separate identifier to distinguish between multiple connectors with the same total number of pins). So, J475 has a 26 x pin connector and the level-senders each have a 4 x pin connector (one of which is vacant because only 3 x wires are terminated and pin #2 isn’t shown).

The pin-out for rear sender on the 26 x pin connector for J745 is:

  • Pin #7 = Pulse Width Modulation (this is the measurement signal)
  • Pin #10 = 5 Volts
  • Pin # 11 = Earth

Now, to be clear — my very simplified wiring diagram (above) was taken from a Rest-of-World model A3 and your cars are North-American-Region models. But I would be surprised if it’s different on your cars.

So, clearly it’s possible on the Audi to have 2 x senders — I assume that your NAR Golf has the usual rear sender only. The j745 module on the A3 knows whether there are two, or one sender depending on the value of Byte 2, Bit 1; value=0 means 1 x sender only

And, I also assume that the Error Code C103615 is «active» — meaning that it isn’t a relic of the J745 module install process, or the Chinese sender retrofit process. Maybe try clearing the error — does it return?

If the error is active, grab a multi-meter and check the 5 V and earth potentials both on the 26 x pin connector and on the actual sender. Also, the PWM voltage will vary depending on the car’s position — but I suggest that you confirm that the voltage on this pin is the same at both ends of the wire loom (without disturbing the car’s level position, of course).

If above tests are OK — maybe look at the long-code string values on J745. There are a bunch of software switches on this module that may be in conflict with the arrangement on the car. Did you replicate the long-code values from the old J745 module on the new unit and did you also align the adaptation channel values (there are not many of these)?

Vehicle: 2015 Volkswagen Jetta GLI (163), L4-2.0L Turbo (CPLA), automatic transmission/transaxle

Mileage: 196,779

Problem: The owner’s concern was that the headlights seemed dim.

Case details: The technician connected a scan tool and found diagnostic trouble code (DTC) C103615 — Left Rear Level Control System Sensor Open Circuit/Short Circuit to B+.

At this point, the technician called ALLDATA Tech-Assist for some diagnostic help. One of the consultants advised that, if the vehicle ride height was incorrect, the headlamps may be improperly aimed, which would make headlights appear dim. He recommended checking the automatic headlamp range control values. If they were good, then check the basic setting of the headlamps.

He also advised testing the left rear level control system sensor (G76) by checking for a 5V reference and ground signal at the sensor. If they were good, then check the resistance of the sensor as it is moved from low to high and back. The resistance should change as the sensor arm is moved.

The technician checked the vehicle ride height, automatic headlight range control values and basic headlight settings. All were in specifications. When he checked the G76, the resistance did not change as the sensor arm was moved through its sweep.

Confirmed repair: He replaced the G76 and rechecked the basic settings for the headlamps. After the repairs, the headlights were bright and no DTCs returned. Fixed!

1 — Part No: 7L6 941 329 B Label: 3D0-941-329.CLB
Компонент: AFS-Lst.-Modul l 0004

If your Audi vehicle was involved in an accident/collision, or you are a dealer or a body shop that is rebuilding a vehicle that you have purchased at an auction such as Copart or IAAI (Insurance Auto Auction), then you will love MyAirbags. We are here to save you hundreds of dollars resetting your Audi airbag control module and rebuilding your Audi seat belts.

Even after a minor accident the airbag may not deploy but the seat belts will lock and airbag module will need to be reset because of crash data and crash codes that are stored in the airbag module. MyAirbags will reset your airbag control module back to its original manufacturer state clear of all codes, both soft and hard codes. Typically, these codes will indicate that there is crash data stored, airbags deployed, communication failure, a full memory, or other airbag, seat belt related issues. Regardless of which issue these codes are indicating, they require to be sent to MyAirbags for reset because of the crash history and hard codes that are stored in the airbag control module. These codes and crash data will not clear with a diagnostic scanner. Below you will find common airbag codes that can be stored in your airbag control module after your vehicle was in an accident.

The best part of having your original airbag module reset by MyAirbags is that when you get your airbag control module back and it goes back into the same vehicle that it came out of then it will be plug-n-play. No additional programming of the VIN is required. This is an alternative to purchasing a new or used Audi airbag module that will need to be taken to the dealership to have the new or used airbag control module programmed to your vehicle. Send your airbag control module to MyAirbags and save time, money and not having to deal with a dealership!

During an accident, seat belt retractors and tensioners are deployed and will lock up by their gas charges, similarly to how airbags are deployed in a collision. After an accident or collision, the seat belts will be locked or will no longer work properly. Your seat belts will lock and will not work pull out or retract back in. MyAirbags can rebuild your seat belt and will save you hundreds of dollars on each seat belt. Seat belts usually cost between $200-$350 per seat belt, MyAirbags can rebuild the at a fraction of that cost. MyAirbags is certified and uses all OEM parts to rebuild seat belts. So, how do you know that your seat belts are malfunctioning or damaged after a collision? A few common symptoms include:

MyAirbags is proud to offer SRS Airbag Module Reset and Seat Belt Repair services to get your Audi back on the road again safely. Avoid the unnecessary expensive dealership prices and trust in MyAirbags to repair and return your airbag module and your seat belts within 24 hours of receiving it, 100% guaranteed or money back!
